Norwegian study indicates that couples who share housework have increased divorce rates

A study performed in 2007-2008 involving thousands of Norwegian couples shows that couples who share housework equally (25% of couples) have higher divorce rates than married couples in which women did most of the chores (71% of all couples).

The findings also stated that couples where men did the majority of the housework had a 4% higher divorce rate than the other two groups. Some researchers think that this may be because couples who share household chores also share modern views on marriage and divorce as opposed to traditional views, which typically frown upon divorce.

Additionally, it is thought that women in relationships that split household chores equally may have more financial independence and are therefore in the position where they can file for divorce if desired.

David Arquette files for divorce from Courteney Cox

David Arquette has now filed divorce papers in order to end the marriage with his estranged wife, Courteney Cox. Arquette cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason that their 13 year marriage will be coming to an end.

The 40-year-old actor has not asked for child or spousal support, but has asked for joint legal custody. Arquette originally signed the divorce papers in March, but the decision to end the 13-year marriage allegedly did not come easy.

According to the New York Daily News, the couple married in June 1999 after meeting on the set of the movie, ‘Scream’ and they share one child together. In October 2010, the couple announced their separation, but stated that they would remain amicable.

Custody cases involving pets increase in U.S.

Recently, there has been an increase in the number of custody cases that involve pets in divorce cases.

In a 2006 survey, it was found that the number of custody cases that determine the fate of a pet has grown nearly 15 percent. Attorneys have stated that the court tends to lean toward leaving the pet with the child if there is a child, but in cases where the pet is considered the child to the couple, it becomes a more difficult situation.

In the past, pets have been considered to be more of property, but now they are seen as children. Also, there are currently no laws that state how visitation will work for with pets so it is left up to the split couple to discuss.

Divorce can affect almost every aspect of life and this i why it is important to make sure that you have experienced representation on your side. Contact the Monmouth County divorce lawyers of Andrew A. Bestafka, Esq. by calling (732) 898-2378 today.
