Eat, Pray, Love author Elizabeth Gilbert Files for Divorce from José Nunes

After twelve years together and a romance quite literally for the books, author Elizabeth Gilbert and husband José Nunes filed for divorce. The author released a statement on her official Facebook page explaining the situation and asking for privacy from fans and the press. In the post, she claims the split is amicable and describes the couple’s reasons simply as “very personal.”

The writer described her whirlwind romance with the Brazilian importer in her 2006 bestselling memoir detailing her travels through Italy, India, and Indonesia after her first marriage ended in divorce. According to Gilbert, Nunes was “[her] favorite souvenir of that trip.” Since the success of Eat, Pray, Love, Gilbert has gone on to pen two more memoirs and has become an active public speaker.

Even in an amicable and uncontested divorce, the process can become overly stressful and difficult. However, an experienced divorce attorney can help to ensure you receive your fair share in the proceedings. Contact our compassionate and qualified legal team at the Law Office of Andrew A.
