N.J. school, where Whitney Houston began singing, mourns death

In New Jersey, the Whitney E. Houston Performing Arts Center is mourning the death of singing icon, Whitney Houston. This school was where Houston began to show her vocal talent and shined as a member of the choir and chorus.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the flag outside of the school is now flying half mast out of respect for the 48-year-old singer who attended the school. Houston died Saturday of causes that have not been determined yet.

The principle of the school and former neighbor of Houston, stated that Houston’s success helped inspire children in the area that they to can overcome challenges and follow their dreams. Fans continue to bring flowers, balloons and candles to the school in order to honor the life of Houston.
