Three years after TV reality star Khloe Kardashian first filed for divorce, a Los Angeles judge has approved the dissolution of her marriage with former NBA player Lamar Odom.
Although the decision was released last Friday, the court document states the couple’s marriage will be legally dissolved December 17, along with their joint company, Khlomar. Both Kardashian and Odom waived spousal support as part of their agreement.
Kardashian initially filed for divorce last December 2013, but she called it off when Odom was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel due to a drug and drinking binge. After the couple’s reconciliation, she filed another petition seeking to end their marriage. She cited “irreconcilable differences.” The two did not have any children but were married for more than four years.

The cost of a divorce can range from inexpensive to millions of dollars. Some of what impacts the cost of a divorce is the couples’s financial status, but other considerations can come into play as well. Factors that will determine how much money it takes to get divorced include:
- The relationship between the divorcing parties. The more contentious the divorce, the more expensive it will be. A rare amicable case will cost the parties very little.
- Whether it is necessary to engage the Court’s assistance in resolving issues the parties cannot resolve before going to trial. The attorney will bill for each motion/cross-motion, reply and court appearance that is required, by the hour.
- The size of the marital estate. If accounting experts need to get involved in order to trace or value assets, the the divorce may cost more.
The precise cost of a divorce cannot be predicted, and costs can vary widely among different litigants and cases. Contact the Law Office of Andrew A. Bestafka, Esq. at (732) 898-2378 to discuss the details of your situation with an experienced legal professional.
Loretta Preska, chief judge of the U.S. District Court in Manhattan recently decided a divorce case in favor of American billionaire Steven Cohen.
Reports claimed that the 59-year-old hedge fund manager and Point72 Asset Management founder was accused of fraud by his former spouse, Patricia Cohen. Patricia reportedly claimed in a 2009 lawsuit that Steven concealed assets from her, so she was pursuing charges to acquire half of the $5.5 million and interests. Chief Judge Loretta Preska decided in favor of Steven due to Patricia’s weak evidence regarding the claim. Judge Preska also said that because Patricia waited so long to file the lawsuit (even though she had such suspicions of fraud in 1991 and 2006), the statute of limitations on the case ran out. Steven Cohen’s spokesperson told reporters that they “were pleased with the court’s thorough and thoughtful decision.”

Under this arrangement, Stefani will walk away with more money. The two also decided on joint custody of their three sons, ages 9, 7, and 2. Mr. Bean star Rowan Atkinson was granted a divorce from his wife of 24 years, Sunetra Atkinson, last month by the district judge of London’s Central Family Court. The pair married in 1990, has two children, and separated in 2014. The ex-couple was reportedly building another home together when they separated and the two have since been living apart in their own houses.
Sunetra cited Rowan’s “unreasonable behavior” in the minute-long divorce proceedings, after he left her for a younger woman.
Unreasonable behavior is common grounds for divorce, said Slater and Gordon’s head of family law, Andrew Newbury, though the case will not be final until Sunetra applies for a decree absolute six weeks after the issuing date of the decree nisi.
